Choose the right hanger: Make sure to hand your fur coats and jackets on a proper rounded hanger to keep the shoulders well shaped.
-
Keep the dust off: Make sure to keep your fur in a cotton bag to keep any dirt or dust that could settle on it. Stay away from plastic bags that don’t allow your fur to breathe.
-
Prevent matting: Avoid keeping anything pinned to your fur, like a brooch for example, that will cause your fur to be matted down. Wearing a shoulder bag consistently is also discouraged as it can wear away the fur on the shoulder.
-
Avoid contact with chemicals: Try not to spray any perfume or hairspray directly on your fur as the chemicals will cause damage to your fur. It’s also a good idea to keep a silk scarf around your neck to protect the collar from any makeup or body oil.
-
Prevent crushing: Try not to sit on your coat for extended periods of time, if possible, remove your coat and hang it up or drape it over your legs or shoulders.
-
Eliminate excessive moisture: If you get caught in the rain or snow, don’t panic. Make sure that you hang it up in a well-ventilated area when you get home, never use any heat to try and dry it faster as it will dry out the hide or leather. If your coat does get completely soaked, it may be a good idea to take it to a professional furrier to prevent shrinkage and have it reshaped if necessary.
-
Storage: Keep your furs in a cool, dark space to avoid any discolouration of the fur itself and to keep the hide or leather in good condition.
